JIV MUSE Pearl Theodosakis
Equestrian: Hunter Jumper
1. At what age did you start horseback riding, and what prompted you to start?
I started riding when I was 6 years old. I was obsessed with Breyer horses and begged my mom to let me ride a pony. Then came along Sparky, my first pony! I was hooked forever.
2. What does a typical day of training look like for you, both physically and mentally?
I wake up and have my matcha while doing some journaling and then it depends on what we are working on that day with Princess, my mare. Sometimes just flat work and other times jumping regular courses or working on our derby practice with roll backs and tighter turns.
3. How would you describe the relationship between you and your horse to someone who’s never ridden before?
It’s quite hard to explain without experiencing it yourself but she’s my soul horse! We understand each other and she feels what I feel and vice versa. She’s my partner and a piece of my heart outside of me.
4. What has been one of your most challenging moments as an equestrian, and how did you push through it?
The most challenging moment is controlling your nerves and mental state when you are about to go into the show ring. To push through it, there’s a lot of self talk and I remind myself of the mutual trust Princess and I have together.
5. Do you ever have pre competition nerves, if so, how do you calm them before competing?
Absolutely! I get extremely nervous before shows so I give myself enough time in the morning to do my meditations and breath work. I also make sure I’m calm before seeing Princess. Horses feel everything.
6. What does it take to build mutual trust between you and your horse?
Experience in the show ring and hours of intentional practice at home.
7. If you could describe the feeling of riding your horse in one word, what would it be?
Magical
8. Favorite JIV ATHLETICS style?
The Sculpt bodysuit with my breeches is my go to.
